China Warns of Global Chip Shortage Risk as Nexperia Dispute Escalates Again

Beijing — China's Ministry of Commerce issued a warning on Friday that global chip supply chains may face shortage risks as the internal dispute at Nexperia continues to escalate. This warning has once again brought the internal conflicts of the Dutch semiconductor company to the forefront.

Nexperia is a significant power semiconductor manufacturer globally, with its products widely used in automotive, industrial electronics, and other fields. The company was originally Dutch but has important production bases in China. In recent years, disputes over control between Nexperia's Dutch headquarters and its Chinese subsidiary have threatened supply chain stability.

A spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce stated: "Although the chip shortage has eased after diplomatic negotiations, the conflict between Nexperia's Dutch headquarters and its Chinese subsidiary will only further intensify." Previously, Nexperia's Dutch side supported剥离 Wingtech's control over its Chinese unit, a decision that has sparked widespread controversy.

Multiple automakers have already sounded the alarm about potential chip shortages and production stoppages. Analysts pointed out that if Nexperia's supply disruption cannot be resolved promptly, the global automotive industry may face another severe chip shortage crisis like the one in 2021.
