Tencent Hosts OpenClaw Setup Events: Seniors Queue Up to Learn AI Agents

Shenzhen — Tencent recently held a special public OpenClaw installation event at its headquarters, attracting nearly 1,000 participants, including many over 60 years old. This scene has sparked heated discussion on Chinese social media and showcases the rapid adoption of AI technology among China's elderly population.

According to media reports, on the day of the event, Tencent Cloud engineers set up service stations at the entrance of the headquarters to help ordinary users install and configure OpenClaw. Among the users were not only young tech enthusiasts but also many retired elderly people. Organizers noted that retired aviation engineers and librarians also came to the site, eager to experience the convenience brought by AI agents.

OpenClaw is an open-source AI agent framework that enables AI to operate personal computers and complete various automation tasks. Since sparking interest in China's internet earlier in 2026, Chinese tech giants including Tencent, Alibaba, and Volcano Engine under ByteDance have integrated OpenClaw into their platforms, lowering the barriers for Chinese users to use AI agents.

Tencent launched this free installation event last Friday, attracting nearly 1,000 participants. Participants not only received on-site guidance from professional engineers but also learned how to use AI agents to improve daily work efficiency. For many elderly participants, this was a valuable opportunity to learn about cutting-edge technology.

"Although I'm retired, I don't want to be left behind by the times," said a retired participant at the event in an interview. "After learning to use this AI assistant, I can more easily video chat with my children and handle some simple computer operations on my own."

This phenomenon reflects the strong demand for digital technology learning among China's elderly population. Thanks to the Chinese internet companies' tradition of "skipping old technology and directly adopting new ones," elderly groups have unexpectedly high acceptance of new AI tools. Industry analysis suggests that with more companies hosting similar events, AI agents are expected to accelerate adoption among China's middle-aged and elderly populations.
