On March 11, 2026, Google announced deep integration of Gemini AI features into Google Workspace's Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive. According to Google's official blog, new features include:

Gemini in Sheets: AI can auto-fill spreadsheet data, simplifying data analysis
Gemini in Slides: Users can get AI assistance for designing presentations and quickly generating slides
"Ask Gemini" in Drive: Users can ask questions in natural language, and AI will retrieve relevant information across documents, emails, and calendar entries

Competing with Microsoft's Office AI Push
Google's update is seen as direct competition to Microsoft's Office 365 AI integration. Just the day before, Microsoft announced integrating Anthropic's Claude into Microsoft 365 Copilot. Now, both Google and Microsoft are deeply embedding AI into productivity software to provide users with smarter tools.
Analysts note that AI-enabled office software will become a key battleground for tech giants in the coming years.
